Using separate stored values for choice questions

The 'Use separate stored values' option lets you store a different value than what the respondent sees in single and multiple choice questions.

When do you use this?

Sometimes a submission needs to contain not the label the respondent sees, but an underlying value, such as an ID or code. For example: you let respondents choose from a list of organisations. The submission needs to store the organisation ID, so that value can be sent directly to an external system like Microsoft Dynamics (NAV).

How does it work?

Enable the Use separate stored values toggle on a single or multiple choice question. A second column appears next to the label of each option. In the left column, type the label respondents see. In the right column, type the value that gets stored in the submission.

Example

Label (visible to respondent)

Stored value

Company A

ORG-00482

Company B

ORG-00105

The respondent selects "Company A", but "ORG-00482" is stored in the submission.
