With a passkey, you sign in without a password or email code. You confirm your identity on your own device, for example with Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello or your phone’s PIN. It is faster than typing a password and more secure, because a passkey cannot be guessed, leaked or stolen through phishing.
What is a passkey?
A passkey is a digital key stored on your device or in your password manager. Trackler only stores a public part of it. The secret part never leaves your device.
You can use a passkey in Trackler in two ways:
Sign in without a password using the passkey button on the login screen
As a second step (MFA) after signing in with your password or email code, as an alternative to a code from your authenticator app
Adding a passkey
You need to add a passkey before you can sign in with one.
Click the name of your workspace in the top left and choose My account.
Go to Security in the menu on the left.
Under Passkeys, click Add passkey.
In the window that appears, click Add passkey again.
Your browser asks where to save the passkey. Choose, for example, Google Password Manager, iCloud Keychain, your Chrome profile, a phone or tablet, or a USB security key.
Confirm with your fingerprint, face recognition or PIN.
Your passkey now appears in the list under Passkeys. At the top of the page you will see the MFA on label.
Tip: save your passkey in a password manager that syncs across your devices (such as iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager). That way you can use the same passkey on your other devices too.
Signing in with your passkey
Go to the Trackler login screen.
Choose Sign in with passkey.
Select your passkey and confirm on your device.
You are signed in right away. No password, email code or extra verification code is needed.
Signing in with a passkey also works if your workspace uses its own domain or subdomain. You are briefly redirected to Trackler to confirm the passkey, then automatically sent back.
Using a passkey as a second step
Do you have multi-factor authentication (MFA) turned on and sign in with your password or email code? Then you can complete the second step with your passkey instead of a code from your authenticator app or a recovery code. You choose one of these methods, not several in a row.
Managing passkeys
Under Security you can see all your passkeys. Here you can add, rename and delete passkeys. Trackler may ask you to enter your password or an email code before making these changes.
Delete any passkey you no longer use, for example one on a device you have lost or no longer own.
Frequently asked questions
I see an error message or a QR code when I try to sign in with a passkey. What now?
You probably have not added a passkey yet, or your passkey is not on the device you are signing in with. Sign in with your password or email code and add a passkey first via My account > Security. Can I sign in with a passkey in the mobile app?
Not yet. Passkeys currently only work in the web app. In the mobile app, sign in with your password or email code.Does a passkey count as MFA if my workspace requires MFA?
Yes. A passkey or an authenticator app is enough to meet your workspace’s MFA requirement.I sign in with Microsoft. Do I need a passkey?
No. When you sign in with Microsoft, Microsoft handles the security and Trackler does not ask for an extra verification step. Can I add more than one passkey?
Yes. For example, add one passkey for your laptop and one for your phone.I no longer have access to my passkey. How do I get back in?
Sign in with your password or email code. If that does not work because you cannot complete the second step either, contact support via the chat.
